Artificial intelligence: AI Grid researchers at the Big-Data.AI Summit in Berlin

News, start-up, robot training and clean drinking water

Berlin, September 2023 – Seven young AI Grid researchers will present the latest research results in artificial intelligence and a brand-new start-up plan at the Big-Data.AI Summit 2023 in Berlin. It's about a news platform with depth, reliable medical diagnoses and robots that successfully learn on their own. The talented young AI Grid scientists are not only highly skilled, but also innovative and energetic.

POINT - News start-up seeks partners

POINT is the name of the news platform for background reports presented by Tanise Ceron and Amelie Wührl from the University of Stuttgart. Their motto is to move away from short-lived news and towards an understanding of complex social and political situations. POINT aims to offer news and reports from all over the world, tailored to the interests of readers. The platform wants to work with leading media companies to achieve this. At the Big Data Summit, Europe's leading conference on the use of AI and big data in business, the two PhD candidates hope to gain cooperation partners for their start-up.

Tanise Ceron and Amelie Wührl conduct research in the field of Computer & Language at the University of Stuttgart.

Sovereign AI - reward system for robots

Julian Eßer trains robots to behave intelligently on their own. The aim is to ensure that the machines act appropriately and do the right thing not only in the case of predictable events, but also in the case of unforeseen events. To this end, he is testing hundreds of robots in virtual worlds. The aim is for the machines to practise and learn how to deal with disruptions and variants of similar situations - and then offer variants themselves. To do this, Julian uses a kind of reward system for robots so that they learn from mistakes and then choose the fastest and most effective way to reach their goal.

Such robots are useful in hospitals, warehouses and airports.

Julian Eßer works at the Fraunhofer Institute in Dortmund in the field of embodied intelligence.

The other presentations are also quite something.

Making artificial intelligence faster, more effective, safer and more reliable

Theresa Eimer, on the other hand, trains machines so that they not only learn smarter, but are also easier to use for beginners.

Theresa Eimer researches automatic machine learning at Leibniz University Hanover.

AI and verifiable knowledge

Hassan Hussein introduces Web 3.0 and is working on a tool that validates information on the web more effectively. In his presentation, he shows how he integrates users of AI to check information.

Hassan Hussein is active in the field of Computer Science at Leibniz Universität Hannover.

Clean drinking water, stable bridges - AI has the potential to make us safer

Linus Henning is also exciting. What does AI have to do with clean drinking water or bridge construction? Or more precisely: how can AI help us, for example, to recognize the weak points in the statics of a bridge in good time, where the structure threatens to collapse? Mathematician Linus talks about the computing power of AI that benefits us humans: “AI has the potential to calculate problems that cannot be solved using conventional methods much more accurately and reliably. That's why we can use it for our security.”

Linus Henning is Master Student in Mathematics / Field of AI: Physics informed Neural Networks at the Freie Universität Berlin.
