Best practices to publish a research paper

In April 2023, the AI Grid organized an event for young scientists and researchers in the field of artificial intelligence.

As part of a lunch talk, Prof. Setareh Maghsudi gave a lecture on “Best Practices for Publication of Research Papers” to give participants valuable insights and guidance in this important area of scientific work.

Prof. Setareh Maghsudi heads the “Decision Making” research group at the Computer Science Department at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. Her research focuses on artificial intelligence and decision-making under uncertainty, especially in networked multi-agent systems. She also supervises several projects at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI and is active as a mentor in the AI Grid to support young AI talents in their research.

Valuable tips

In her lecture, Prof. Maghsudi imparted valuable best practices: How a scientific paper should be structured to have the best chance of publication, how to deal with co-authorship, which journals you should publish in and how you should respond to the feedback the assessor responds.

Some of the most important tips:

📌 Maintain clarity and comprehensibility

📌 Good structuring as a key element

📌 Build on solid, previous research

📌 Do your best, but don't see rejection as a catastrophe

📌 Higher rejection rates at top conferences and journals

📌 Take reviewer comments seriously, revise and resubmit work

📌 Don't just hope for luck when submitting

Support for young researchers in AI

Young researchers in the field of AI who are looking for additional support with their thesis through mentoring and networking are warmly invited to join the AI Grid. AI Grid is an initiative to strengthen the network and synergies between young talents in the field of artificial intelligence and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
