The application process

1. Application Requirements
Please make sure that you meet all of the following criteria:

  • You are affiliated with a university or research institution in Germany.
  • Your studies or research are clearly related to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • You are:
    • A Master's student who is enrolled for at least another 6 months (for medical students: in advanced studies), or
    • A PhD student.


2. Application Submission
If you meet all the criteria, create an account on our community platform AI Grid and complete the application form. The estimated time required is about 30 minutes.

The following documents are required for your application:
  • CV (PDF format)
  • Profile picture (png, gif format)
  • Brief summary of your AI research focus or your Master's or PhD thesis.
3. Review & Feedback
The AI Grid team, along with experts from the network, regularly evaluates new applications. If there are any uncertainties regarding your project description or research situation, we may ask you for additional information.

We strive to provide feedback within 6 weeks of your registration. During the winter and summer holidays, this period may be slightly longer.
4. Next Steps
Following a successful application, we will invite you to an online onboarding meeting. There, you will learn more about networking opportunities with other early-career researchers, our mentoring program, and upcoming events.
You will also have the opportunity to make initial connections and join a Micro Focus Group (MFG).
